If your email marketing results are slowing down, not improving or worse, then read on. Open rates are important, just as much as the CTA and the click through rate. After all , people got to open the email in the first place, eh?!

The subject line is probably to blame. Here are ten simple tweaks you can make today that will improve open rates:

1. Reduce the length of the subject line

The general consensus from email marketing experts is that around 40 characters to the subject line is ideal..

 2. Offer a solution with a deadline

If you are providing an offer, use a deadline to drive that inquisitive nature to open this email.

3. Use a call to action (CTA)

Tempt people to open you email with something like – Book before Friday!

4. Remove anything ‘spammy’

If you are using a quality EMS – email marketing server – like https://www.mailingmanager.co.uk  then use their spam tester. Otherwise check online for what warrants spam. Like “Free”, No – obligation and their derivatives.

 5. Tantalise your reader

Tease the reader into opening the email. Use something simple like “Hurry the deadline is approaching – 27th June”.

6. Use a call to action (CTA)

Tempt people to open you email with something like – Book before Friday!

7. Make an announcement

If your email is designed to launch a new product or service, make a big deal about it in the subject line. “We’ve created this just for you…” – that kind of thing.

8. Show your fun side

We get loads of emails a day now, so make the subject line different, something that will catch the eye. Amongst all the spam, boring emails and more, your humourous subject line will grab attention. It will shout “HELLO!!”

9. Ask a question

What are you proposing? Are you offering a solution to their problem? Ask that question to which your email will solve.

9. Try an emoji

According to Experian, 56% of brands that use emojis in their email subject lines enjoy higher unique open rates. With that in mind, why not add a thumbs-up or smiley to yours? Split test to see which emojis elicit the best response.

10. Provide a fact

Use a simple “did you know” in the subject line to increase open rates. Again its that inquisitive human nature, not only for cats!! Choose something that will raise interest levels and send it out to your potential customers!

Take Away Points

Using a A/B testing, usually included in email marketing software, test your subject lines. Include all the above, if you can and see your open rates soar. Good luck and if you need any help – send me an email – with a good subject line of course!!
